Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and Bay Mills Indian Community, parties to the 1836 Treaty, formed the Chippewa Ottawa Treaty Fishery Management Authority to regulate the treaty fishery. Little River Band gained federal recognition in 1994 and joined COTFMA in 1998.
